Tanning helped!

Yippee for another wonderful night of sleep without benadryl and melatonin!!  Just the one day of tanning really tamed the itch! I went again this morning and the itching  is just about non-existent!  Hands and ankles continue their slow, but steady healing.  Got a lot done today! Started packing and organizing more. My kids keep asking me if anything is wrong because I'm constantly moving lately....after a year of being a constant on the couch, all this activity is not something they are used to!  So much to do and so many good things happening! :)

  1. Just a question i have used topical steroid creams for like 5 years and i have been off them for like a month and a half, i have just had flaky skin and no oozing unless i wear makeup. May you know why this is? I also apply like a little emollent on when my face and arms are dry.

    1. Yves...you may just be someone who does not becomes addicted to the TS....or you can be a late bloomer where the TSW symptoms don't start until 3-4 months in. Also if you are using anything at all with steroids, that can stop you from going into withdrawal. Remember, not everyone goes through withdrawal. I have a cousin who has used TS every winter for 20+ years but doesn't need it at all during the summers....and she never had a problem with her skin getting worse.

    2. why does she use it in winter out of curiosity? Do you think the TS she uses is just too weak? I'm wondering because I read a medical article on TS used on healthy individuals (without eczema or skin conditions) and 100% had problems with it (became addicted). Do you think its rare to be ok with it and be able to use it without problems?

  2. That is awesome news, Tracy! We've tried to get Josh out in the sun on nice days - it seems to do him the world of good too.

    1. Good for Josh! The sun does us all good! Too much too soon can cause a reaction for some. I wish I had tried tanning earlier than I did to see if it would have helped sooner.

  3. Great news! Am interested to know the specifications of your tanning machine used..is it possible to get the data from the place you visit? It certainly has to do to your body's adaptation to whatever stimulus the tanning machine triggers. UV? light?

    Intrigued,

    1. Leslie...not sure of the specs...I do know that the bed has both UVB and UVA rays to mimic the sun the best. It's not the highest strength either....more middle of the road. The max time is 15 minutes. I've been in a bed where the max was 8 minutes but it was way too strong. Hope this helps a bit. I'll see if I can get more info from the place.

  4. Hey Tracy,
Thanks for that, the cream im using has no steroid in it at all! Whilst you were using the steroid cream did you mix it with something or put it straight on your skin? Im so glad you have come so far kn your journey, its good for me to hear these stories as it gives me hope too! I look AWFUL without makeup but cant wear it right now for obvious reasons but will do ANYTHING to get those nasty steroids out pf my skin

    1. Hi Yves,
I did everything from putting TS straight on my skin to mixing it with other stuff to make my own concoctions. I used TS for 30 years. I was able to finally wear make-up at 8-9 months. My face no longer looks bad, but my hands still do - people stare at me all the time - probably wondering if I have something contagious. But I long ago stopped worrying about what other people think. It is what it is. I would suggest you read as many blogs about TSW as possible to find out what seems to work best for others and then do some trial and error on your own. Best of luck!
